Is toothache always a harbinger of disease?

Toothache reduces the comfort of life and can make everyday life difficult. However, many people experiencing this type of discomfort delay going for a dental consultation. Is this bothersome symptom always the result of a developing oral disease?

Causes of toothache

For one of main causes of toothache indicate a bacterial disease - caries. If left untreated, it can not only cause severe pain, but also lead to cavities. Sometimes, however, the source of a toothache is different. If the symptom occurs primarily during the consumption of hot or cold foods and drinks, it is often indicative of hypersensitivity of the dentition resulting from exposed dentin.

During the course of our dental consultations in Lodz it is not uncommon to find that the cause of toothache is the erupting eights. Sometimes the symptom appears after a mechanical trauma, during which the tooth was damaged, e.g. chipped or broken.

Do you always have to go to the doctor with a toothache?

Often temporary toothache is neglected by patients. This is a serious mistake. Even though the discomfort is no longer experienced, as much as possible it could be indicative of a serious oral abnormality. The subsidence of pain is not infrequently a consequence of its mortification.

In the event of any type of toothache (sharp, dull, throbbing, spontaneous), dental consultation should be sought. This avoids serious complications - such as nerve damage, infection of further tissues, development of an abscess. It is worth adding that it happens that a toothache is a symptom of a sinus disease. Characteristically, the discomfort is aggravated when one changes the position of the head, lifts it or tilts it.
