Tooth sandblasting: how, when and why?
Tooth sandblasting is a routine hygiene treatment, which should be carried out regularly by everyone at least twice a year (in justified cases even more frequently). The primary objective is to improve oral hygiene. The whole process involves removing tartar and deposits from the surface of the teeth using a suspension with particles of a cleaning substance applied under high pressure. The cleaner consists of fine granules, which are referred to as dental sand, hence the name of the procedure.
Dental sand contains particles that are safe enough to effectively remove deposits, yet gentle enough not to damage the enamel. The sandblasting procedure can only be performed by a dentist or dental hygienist. However, everything proceeds painlessly, safely and quickly (approx. 20-30 minutes).
Air Polishing is the best way to get rid not only of stains and deposits, but above all of bacteriawhich can contribute to enamel damage, decay or periodontal disease. It is therefore one of the basic methods of prevention of oral diseases. In addition, measures in this area affect the aesthetics of the smile.
Prior to sandblasting, it is advisable to carry out scaling. After the dental sand treatment, it is advisable to undergo polishing and fluoridation of the teeth. The entire procedure is also necessary before whitening.
