When should you make an appointment to see a paediatric dentist?
Milk teeth usually start to appear around 6 months of age. It is recommended that at first visit to the paediatric dentist take your toddler when he is two years old. After that, consultations should already be regular - every three to six months. It is prevention that forms the basis of dental care when it comes to the youngest patients.
Pediatric dentist inspects deciduous teeth and assesses whether they are developing correctly. If necessary, he recommends an orthodontic consultation. He also checks the dentition for caries, which often develops in young patients. He can also recommend treatments such as fluoridation and varnishing to strengthen the enamel. With regular visits to the paediatric dentist, the first signs of diseases of the teeth and gums can be detected quickly and treatment can be implemented before complications arise.
Do milk teeth heal?
Milk teeth should be treated as much as possible. It is not important that they will eventually be replaced by permanent teeth. Postponing a visit to the paediatric dentist may result in the occurrence and subsequent intensification of pain in the young patient. The premature loss of deciduous teeth can lead to abnormal development of permanent teeth, malocclusion and impaired chewing function. Decay of milk teeth can also spread to the permanent dentition.
Dental care in children It should therefore consist primarily of regular check-ups of deciduous teeth, hygiene procedures and, if necessary, treatment including, for example, the insertion of fillings.
